ANUNAROSE: What’s a typical day in the life of a Lor-e the celebrity stylist & designer?

Lor-e: It all depends on the day, if I’m prepping for a video or award show, I might be shopping, visiting showrooms, or designing something special for it which would include running to pattern makers and sample makers. Other days I may be found inspirational shopping, which is browsing to see what might inspire the next new design. Or working on my new book or TV show that I’m creating about how I met Will.i.am in the early 90’s.

ANUNAROSE: How did you get into wardrobe styling for the Black Eyed Peas?

Lor-e: I met will in 1993 when he was attending FIDM (Fashion institute of design & merchandising) in LA and we started talking about clothes and we’ve been best friends ever since. in 2001 we formed i.am clothing, I started styling the Black Eyed Peas in 2003 when “Elephunk” was released.

ANUNAROSE: How did the collaboration with will.i.am on i.am.clothing come about?

Lor-e: Although fashion was one of his loves, he began getting busier and busier with music so he asked me to be his partner and run i.am clothing, that way we could do both, fashion and music.

ANUNAROSE: How do you go about picking pieces for the Black Eyed Peas to wear?

Lor-e: I will sometimes shop then bring in racks of clothes for each one of them to look through they will set aside what they like and we will build looks from that. I know them so long so when I’m in the store, or showroom I’ll be able to pick out right away like “oh that’s taboo” or  ”that’s so apl.”

ANUNAROSE: How big do you think celebrity influence is the fashion industry and setting trends?

Lor-e: I think as a designer getting your look on the right celebrity will help the image of the line, and create public awareness. but if it’s on the wrong celebrity it will also tend to categorize the designer and that may lead to other people not wanting to wear or represent the line as well, so that’s a tough question.

ANUNAROSE: How difficult/easy is it being the sole person responsible for such big celebrities public image?

Lor-e: Luckily I have lots of help from the group that we have formed over the years so it’s teamwork and also something I am very happy to be doing.
