Runway Report: Stella McCartney S/S’12

Synonymous for well tailored pieces that allow women to adopt a masculine look without loosing their femininity, Stella McCartney once again proved she isn’t just the daughter of a musical legend who just got lucky. With reports surfacing that sales for Stella have gone up considerably in the past year, the pressure was on for the power designer to show us just why business was booming, and, of course, she did!

In Stella’s S/S’12 collection, tailored and structured dresses were shown alongside pretty and feminine dresses as well as pyjamas-style and tailored trousers being merging together. Sounds odd, but this is exactly what Stella’s S/S’12 collection was predominantly made up of. Accessories and footwear were kept simple and a clever combination of past season’s trends as well as the element of comfortable dressing only added to the allure of the collection.

Clean crisp fabrics draped the models almost effortlessly with structured masculine-influenced pieces being shown in a non-typical structured style, bright whites and light prints teamed with feminine dresses and draped trousers made for a perfect spring/summer collection. Generally, when suits are shown on the runway, it can be a struggle to envision yourself ever wearing the same piece to work or on a night out but Stella managed to bridge the gap showing tailoring at its best.

The simplicity of this collection- suits, jumpsuits, party dresses made it stand out more than other collections we’ve seen at Paris Fashion Week. Stella and her team managed to bring neutral whites and creams as opposed to bright and bold colours (which we’ve seen consistently at both New York and London Fashion Week) to the forefront of next seasons trends which worked in her favour in this stellar collection.
