Runway Report: Kanye West’s all black everything Fall 2012 collection
Kanye West R-T-W Fall 2012
Earlier this evening in Paris, Kanye West debuted his new Fall R-T-W 2012 collection (not to be confused with the Dw collection he showcased last season). The collection featured an array of black leather, fur, suede and Kanye-inspired outfits. After recieveing a more than controversial review of his last collection back in September, we saw Kanye take it back to his personal-style roots of fitted leather, showcasing a range of leather trousers and dresses, embellished t-shirts, fur jackets, velvet detail dresses and sheer tops on the runway. Front row sat the likes of Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley (who wore UGGS and blue velour trousers!) P Diddy, Waka Flocka Flame, Kim Kardashian (who wore Kanye’s x Giuseppe Zanotti heels from last season in support), Cassie, Jay Z!! + More.
Kanye showed off his sartorial talents by dressing the models (who walked down a smoke filled runway) in a range of stylish and opulent black separates and although there were a few hits and misses, we applaud Kanye’s efforts as a rapper-turned-designer for this season’s collection. There were definitely some show stoppers in the collection like the insane leather aviator-style fitted jackets, the leather trouser + fur top look, and the beautiful velvet-detailed dress teamed with thigh high boots but there were also a few looks that we didn’t quiet understand, a bit mis-matched if we’re honest. However, we do love that Kanye clearly injected his own personal street-style into the collection, staying true to what he stands for as a designer and adding appropriate accents like avant-garde leather backpacks, his staple leather skinny trousers, oversized fur jackets and gold clutch bags. This collection also did have a Givenchy-esq feel (one of Kanye’s favourite designers) with all the black and you could see similar traces from Kanye’s last collection in the fabric, styling and silhouettes, which could only mean that Kanye is starting to find his signature look as a designer. See some of the highlights from the show below.
