Rihanna’s best outfits of 2011
Rihanna’s style is without a doubt our definition of fabulous, fearless and fierce! We love how she has transformed from a girly, innocent teen pop-star to the confident, fashion-forward female she is today. Her ever-changing hairstyles and versatility when it comes to fashion makes her one of the music industry’s ultimate style icons. Rihanna’s signature style is edgy, brimming with confidence and exuding sexiness. We think Rihanna is inspiring (sartorially speaking) as she experiments with so many different styles, one day flaunting her curves in a bralet and teeny hot-pants and the next dressing down in jeans and a tee- we are seriously envious of her ability to look good in any outfit!
Her eye-catching wardrobe has definitely paid off, with the star gracing the cover of Vogue, Marie Claire and other major fashion magazines as well as being given the opportunity to design a capsule collection for fashion powerhouse Armani. Here, we take a look at some of the WOW outfits that catapulted Rihanna onto our ‘Best Dressed’ list and that triggered many fashion crushes around the world.
Rihanna arrived at the 2011 BRIT Awards at the O2 Arena, London wearing this tulle and floral Christian Dior gown from their Fall 2010 Couture collection. We love the vibrant colour combination and her sleek trademark tresses paired with aqua blue Louboutin Pigalle heels and Solange Azagury-Partridge rings.
Rihanna wore this gorgeous red and white silk organza gown from Oscar de la Renta to receive her award for Best Female International Artist at the BRITS. The embroidered red carnations complimented her fiery red hair and she looked elegant and feminine, making a nice change from her usually edgy look.
At the 53rd annual Grammy awards Rihanna made headlines in this sheer ruffled Jean Paul Gaultier creation which left little to the imagination! She gains style points here for incredibly managing to avoid any sign of a VPL (visible panty line)! Riri’s look was completed with Louboutins and a Wilfredo Rosado ring. Her hair looks lovely in a slightly tousled bob and her makeup is flawless in soft violet hues.
Rihanna looked beautiful and celebrated her curves on the cover of Vogue for their annual shape issue in April, wearing a figure-hugging floral Chanel dress.
For the Met Gala in May, the Barbadian beauty wore a very sheer black lace dress by Stella McCartney teamed with Christian Louboutin Balota Platforms- she does love her Louboutins! Rihanna accessorised her look with a fairy-tale-worthy fishtail braid and turquoise earrings. She topped off her glamorous look with dramatic dark red lipstick and smoky eyes.
At the Billboard Music Awards Rihanna rocked an all-white Max Azria trouser suit with plunging neckline and a statement Solange Azagury Partridge necklace with nude Christian Louboutin courts. We were blown away by Rihanna’s sophistication and effortless sex appeal in this chic suit, and her hair looks stunning against the white.
Rihanna launched her fragrance ‘Reb’l Fleur’ at Macy’s in a surprisingly demure dress from her usually revealing taste. Her pretty polka-dot frock is from the Mandalay Fall 2010 Collection and her elegant up-do frames her naturally beautiful face.
Rihanna’s style staples for V Festival were high-waisted hot pants, cropped tops and her rocker leather jacket. For one of her ultra-cool outfit choices she tied up a denim shirt and paired it with leather embellished hot pants, revealing her toned stomach and legs. She then channelled her inner rock chick in studded denim cut-offs, a fierce leather jacket and fishnets.
For her Loud Tour, which won Rihanna the award for the most sell-out dates at one venue by a female artist, Riri sported this custom Adam Selman and Tom Binns two piece ensemble which accentuated her curves. We love the cool aztec feel of the multi-coloured bejewelled bra and knickers.
Rihanna’s British Vogue cover debut had been one of the magazine’s most anticipated issues since the controversial singer announced her upcoming shoot in late July. For their November issue Rihanna revealed a new quiet sophistication and sexiness in a Marilyn Monroe style blonde wig and a black and floral-print silk Armani Privé Couture cocktail dress.
Rihanna looks sexy and chic in this photograph from the shoot, channelling 40’s and 50’s style clothes and a beret but still oozing her signature sexy look and flaunting those enviable pins. We love the retro vibe mixed with modern bold attitude that our girl Rihanna exudes.
Rihanna performed an explosive set as she headlined day one of Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball 2011 in London on December 3. She wore a mid-riff-baring top and her wardrobe staple- another pair of hot-pants, creating her signature urban look. She is obviously trying out a new blonde look for the new year with her structured bob, and we love it!
